Type Physics is a browser-based tool for making audiovisual work with variable fonts. In Type Physics you can make single glyphs, words, or paragraphs bounce, orbit, or collapse — affected by gravity, chaos, or both — while variable axes animate in sync with the motion. Layout direction is configurable too, with multiple arrangement options for how glyphs are placed and move through space.
Sound is part of the same system. The physics engine feeds directly into an audio layer — collisions, settling, and motion all generate sound. A built-in mixer with distortion, reverb, delay, and flanger lets you shape each channel independently. Type, motion, audio, and the nature of variable type are interconnected throughout.
The Type Physics tool is free for personal and non-commercial use. Projects you create with it may be published in personal social media accounts, but they cannot be used in advertising or passed forward to a client. If you would like to use Type Physics in a commercial project, you will need a license for the typeface you are working with. A video license for a variable font from the type.today collection can be purchased in type.today's shop. If you are working with typefaces from other distributors, please check which of their licenses is appropriate for your intended use.
If you publish work made with the tool, we'd appreciate a mention of the project creators, @type.today font shop, and the name of the font you used.
Type.Today Tool — Terms of Use
This tool is provided by Type.Today ("we", "us") on an as-is basis.
User-uploaded content and licensing. You may upload your own font files (OTF, TTF, WOFF, WOFF2) to use within this tool. You are solely responsible for ensuring you hold the appropriate license or rights to use any font you upload. The usage of any content exported from this tool that incorporates fonts owned by you or fonts purchased via Type.Today is governed solely by the terms and conditions of the respective license agreements for those specific typefaces. We do not inspect, store, or distribute your uploaded files. We accept no liability for any intellectual property infringement or other legal claims arising from your use of third-party fonts.
Default font library and usage restrictions. Any graphics, audiovisual works, or output created using the pre-installed fonts provided by Type.Today within this tool are permitted for personal and non-commercial use only. Such output may be published on personal social media accounts, but it may not be used in advertising, commercial projects, or passed forward to a client. If you wish to use output created with Type.Today's pre-installed fonts for commercial purposes, you must purchase the appropriate commercial license for the relevant typeface via type.today.
No warranties. This tool is provided without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability, or non-infringement. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation.
Limitation of liability. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Type.Today and its contributors shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising out of or in connection with the use of this tool or any content produced with it.
Exported content. You are responsible for any content you export, publish, or distribute using this tool. We make no claims of ownership over your output.
Changes. We reserve the right to modify or discontinue the tool at any time without notice.
